Sophie's Journal — June 1955

1955 · Entry #20

“June 2, 1955 I took Kyle to the ranch. I am sitting at the kitchen table in Carrolton writing this and I can still feel the dust on my arms and the sun on the back of my neck and the way the corrals smelled, smoke and sage and manure and iron, and Kyle is asleep down the hall with his boots by his bed, the boots that are brown with dirt from the branding pen, and I need to write this down before it becomes something I remember instead of something that happened.”

Sophie's Journal is included with your Missing Chapters subscription. $8.99/month or $79/year.
